How To Add Chemical

In general, chlorine and other chemicals should be added directly to the pool water with the filter running. Chlorine should be added late in the evening while the filter is operating so the sun will not reduce the effectiveness of this product. Liquid chemicals should be added directly to your pool water.

**CAUTION:

  • Never mix chemicals – add them to the pool separately.
  • ALWAYS add chemicals to water; Not water to chemicals.
  • NEVER add chlorine products in your skimmer if using an automatic chemical feeder (i.e.: FROG)

When handling and administering pool chemicals, read the instructions carefully and follow the manufacturer's directions.

Proper WaterChemisttry

Effectively maintaining your pool begins with a full understanding of water chemistry. A pH count that is too low or too high can affect water quality as well as the presence of algae, suspended dirt or various minerals. Many pool owners believe that the use of chlorine can correct any water problem, however, this is inaccurate. To ensure your family will enjoy clean, healthy swimming pool water everyday several chemicals may need to be used.

Using a water test kit will enable you to test two (2) important factors of your swimming pool:

  1. Combined chlorine level
  2. pH level

Chlorine Level – This test indicated how much combined chlorine (measured in Parts Per Million or PPM) is available in the water. It should be 1.5 to 2.0 PPM

pH Level – A very important test, which indicated the amount of acidity of alkalinity in the water. The ideal range is 7.2 to 7.6. A low pH indicates acidic water; a high pH indicated alkaline (basic) water. pH Should always be Adjusted To The Proper range prior to the addition of Chlorine or other Chemical. Failure to do so will seriously affect their performance.

Tips for Proper Testing

1. Test Often.
The best way to treat pool water problems is to prevent them from happening in the first place. Testing enables you to compensate for changes in the water before problems develop, caused by bather load, weather, and other environmental factors. Test each end of the pool a minimum of twice per week
2. Proper Storage. Keep your Test Kit in a cool dark place. Too much heat, sunlight or freezing may chemically change the indicators.
3. Keep your hands Clean. Dirty fingers may contaminate the test.

4. Always Follow The Directions.
